LUTHERAN MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER

Marriage Encounter is a weekend enrichment experience designed to help married couples communicate more intimately with one another in order to deepen and enrich their relationship. The weekend is orderly, informative and structured. Couples are given an opportunity to look into themselves and their relationships with each other and with God, while enjoying time away from responsibilities in a comfortable atmosphere.

Young couples, old couples, newly married couples and “veterans,” LUTHERAN MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER IS FOR YOU because:

  • IT PREPARES you for a great marriage; don’t settle for just a “good” one.
  • It shows that LISTENING SKILLS can be learned – learn them soon, before too many hurts happen.
  • It reminds us that LOVE is a verb, not just an emotion.
  • PREPARATION is better than REPARATION! Don’t get caught up in your issues and arguments.
  • Learn how to express your needs in a healthy way.

LUTHERAN MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER IS:

  • private (you may listen to presentations as a group, but what you discuss happens in private!)
  • personal (you are unique and will draw from the modeled communication skills what fits your needs best)
  • practical (you practice the skills immediately, after each presentation – this is not just theoretical)
  • pleasing to God (God created marriage and has a plan for you –make your relationship something that honors Him)

LUTHERAN ENGAGED ENCOUNTER

"A wedding is a day… A Marriage is a Life time!”

Engagement and preparations for a wedding can be an exciting but stressful time in any relationship. Lutheran Engaged Encounter provides an opportunity for couples (whether engaged or seriously dating) to openly and honestly share hopes, dreams and desires for the marriage relationship that may lie ahead.

The experience is designed to give couples the opportunity to talk honestly and intensively in a face-to-face way about their future life together, their strengths and weakness, desires, ambitions, goals, and their roles in the Church and society. The event is led by a Lutheran clergy and two lay couples who are dedicated to their own marriages and forms a great companion piece to pastoral counseling.

This is a valuable opportunity to explore key issues and practice communication skills taught on this weekend!
